While Arian Iznaga Aldiles was a good Cuban representative to the Beijing Paralympic Games, the truth is that, as he himself admits, the achievement is due to a harmonic runner-guide–coach relationship.

Arian’s success is always shared. And believe me that such a staement does not take from the sgfillful blind runner any ability at all.; it is only that, as he himself says, Yassen has become his feet and Miriam his eyes.

At the end we have, even though he is award-winning, his conscience knows to distribute praises to those deserving also the triumph: ultimately, they are three inside one.

The corridor
In 1995 Arian Iznaga Aldiles was talked about for the first time during the Paralympic Games of Argentina. Then he won three gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter and in 4 x 400 relay. Later (1998) set  a record in the World Championship in Madrid, also in the 100 and 200 meter; he then continues an upward trajectory that goes from Mexico to Seville, Quebec, the Netherlands, and Rio de Janeiro, until Beijing in 2008.

He had had other companions, but in 2004 he joined Yassen Pérez, and since then they become inseparable.
" Sometimes destiny waits to give you the best surprises ― Arian says pleased―." I've improved all my marks with Yassen. He had never been able to drop below 23 seconds and I’m now in 22,72 obtained at the 13th Paralympics Games.
" I wish I had met a person as Yassen much earlier because he knows how to reach the people! It is a pity the guide’s work is not so recognized."

A blind’s eyes
To Yassen Perez, who has become the runner’s vision,  is true there is still some undervaluation towards the guide, but the fans, the press, and INDER do consider his work is more than a companion’s one. Of course  Yassen does not feel at all minimized for being  a blind’s eyes, especially if it's Arian.

"Our relationship is perfect, even out the track, although there are some moments I have to tell him off because he tends to be distracted. But he is very disciplined and I like to run with him. I believe it has been a privilege to meet him.

"While I do not receive medals myself, I feel as a part of every success. In fact Arian gives an award to me, because his results are mine too."

The coach
Undoubtedly, results come up from the harmonic runner-guide–coach tie. Miriam Ferrer, the head coach, knows very well. That’s why she put every effort to deman the maximum effort from her athletes, so that it turns into medals at the end.

"I feel as apart of the whole and quite comfortable working with Arian and Yassen. We are a truly united team. I think we complement each other perfeclty”.

As it is known enjoyment goes beyond one, two or three people. The  physical therapist and other members of the technical staff, teammates, the people of Cuba attest that. Because, as we said at the beginning, Arian’s success is always shared.
